NLA Begins July 26 Food Distribution to 180 Disabled, Orphanages and Elderly Communities
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has launched the distribution of food and non-food items to 180 disabled communities, orphanages, public welfare institutions and elderly homes across Montserrado County ahead of Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration.
Speaking at the launch in Monrovia, NLA Director General Peter Solo said the donation reflects the Authority’s commitment to giving back to vulnerable Liberians through its corporate social responsibility program. He noted that the initiative aligns with President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and the NLA’s legal mandate to support charitable causes.
The donated items include rice, cooking oil, chicken soup and other essential supplies. Solo also announced tuition support for students with disabilities attending community colleges and public universities, stressing that education should be accessible to everyone regardless of financial challenges.
He called on the 180 beneficiary organizations to distribute the items fairly and transparently to those most in need.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the National Union of Organizations of the Disabled, Rev. Peter Flomo, praised the NLA for the donation but urged the Authority to go beyond seasonal assistance by creating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. He said empowering people with jobs would provide a lasting solution to poverty and improve their quality of life.
