Our Third Advent:

While working within the Buduburam refugee camp, which hosted Liberians in Accra, Ghana, as a nonprofit under Ghana’s nonprofit laws, MOPGEL published The Equality Trumpet Newspaper as its media project from mid-2006 to mid-2008. In late 2008, we folded our operations due to unwanted tension and returned to Liberia.
In 2009, we registered under Liberia’s nonprofit laws and started projects and activities in Liberia, and again published the Equality Trumpet newspaper. In late 2010, we closed our projects when our founder/External Coordinator migrated to the United States of America (USA).
The Equality Trumpet is a platform that is committed to promoting gender equality, justice, human rights, and social development. We are working to amplify the voices of disadvantaged people and communities, to encourage civic engagement, and to support initiatives that create positive societal change for all.
We’re promoting gender equality to build a peaceful, sustainable society; it drives economic growth, reduces poverty, and fosters safer, healthier communities for everyone.
The equality trumpet brings people together to discuss issues affecting communities locally and internationally, giving disadvantaged people and community/traditional leaders a platform to tell their own stories and those of their respective communities.
Our third coming is coinciding with Liberia’s scheduled celebration of 179 years of independence on July 26, 2026. Liberia elected H.E Madam Ellen-Johnson Sirleaf as the first female President in Africa, in 2005, a development that sent a warning shot to our traditional practices that engaged in early marriages for girls.
With this in mind, we will work hard to engage the community, Traditional leaders, other nonprofits, and the government to transform our traditional practices and other gender norms in the country.
To achieve gender equality in Africa and Liberia, our traditional practices must be transformed. Some practices don’t provide equal opportunities for both boys and girls, resulting in girls dropping out of school and losing educational opportunities.
We strongly believe that every child deserves the right to education, personal growth, and the freedom to make decisions about his/her own life.
